Ultrasound Services

Ultrasound examinations are performed using ultra-high frequency sound waves. These waves can penetrate body tissue to produce images of sections of the body. The major advantage of ultrasound is that it is basically non-invasive, relatively simple to perform and well tolerated in most instances.

Ultrasound exams are very useful for looking at soft-tissue organs like the liver and kidneys, where x-ray is limited to bone and air filled organs such as the lungs.

Mobile imaging currently uses The Sonosite MicroMaxx, which offers impressive image quality in a lightweight system weighing only 8 pounds.

Examinations Performed:

Abdominal-organs examined: liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, spleen, bile ducts, and a limited view of the abdominal aorta.

Renal-organs examined: kidneys (renal cortex) and collecting structures within the kidneys.

Pelvic-organs examined: urinary bladder, uterus, ovaries. (non obstetric)

Carotid Duplex-organs examined: carotid arteries.

Venous Doppler-Evaluates blood flow through the vessels of the upper and lower extremity

Echocardiography-This examination provides a comprehensive analysis of the heart motion, including valve pliability, regurgitation, ejection fraction and detection of atrial thrombosis. Echocardiography has become the preferred method to evaulate patients with valvular heart disease.

Ultrasound examinations are available 8:00 am to 3:00 pm daily, Monday thru Friday and need to be scheduled in advance.

STAT exams are accommodated when possible.
